| US Skins Review..................? I wondering what your thoughts were. I have not seen the original UK version so I come in unbiased. I like they are using age appropriate actors... but they never seem to get teens on TV dressed like I see out and about. Teens are huge billboards where I live so where were the Abercrombie logos on everything and or the bands tees for EMO bands and hot topic shirts of guys TV shows?! They also seem to have headphones in the ears at all the time even in conversation. Just think of the product placement. That aside the actors couldn't act they were too stiff and too clean and pretty. My school was a messy place and my classmates more or less looked messy, save for those few vain enough to spend hours getting spruced up. We had pimples and messy hair from getting up to late for school and sagging pants with boxers showing, though not as low as seem to have gotten. I think they followed the UK version to closely because the slang and swearing was off. At least if you live in CA Bay Area. And really there would be more a lot swearing and ***** this ***** that, cock, balls, etc... I read they had teens working on the show to give an authentic feel... I guess they got the teens from the wrong time and place. I mean the amount to time I see teens on devices even with friends is absurd and that would probably make for a boring show but that is reality where I live. I curious to watch the original UK version. But the US version felt like another attempt at 'Undressed' or whatever that soft porn show MTV had was. Bleech! |
| I agree, as a huge fan of the original, I just think some of skins' charm, humour and reality has been lost in translation. Right from the start, Tony's dad does not even compare to Harry Enfield (partly due to the lack of swearing - the original was full of it), and throughout the episode, Skins US missed out on the subtle touches of the english script which make skins so special. For example, in the lake scene, Cadie says something like 'at least we're all alive', compared to Cassie's: 'at least we've got our health. That's the important thing' :) And maybe it's just my english head speaking, but imo, half the lines just don't sound right with the american accent :/. It seemed somehow less realistic, because none of the conversations flowed like a normal one might, they were just words that had been put together. Whereas, in the British version, their dialogues seem a little more plausible (like in Sid, Tony, Michelle and Cassie's conversation before they enter the party - s1e1). It's these little things that make all the difference. In terms of acting, I thought Chris and Michelle were the best, Tony was alright, but I didn't get Cadie or Daisy. Obviously it was only a snippet, but Eura didn't come across all that well either. I am however looking forward to Tea's episode, cos she seemed pretty cool in this one and I was never really a fan of Maxxie. Overall, it's not as good as the original, but still worth a watch. Somehow I can't see myself watching it over and over like I have with skins UK. That said, I will wait to watch the next episodes before I rule it out... |
